This award honors outstanding and distinguished international books by granting two prizes:

  1. A prize of AED 50,000 for the Best International Fiction Book
  2. A prize of AED 50,000 for the Best International Non-Fiction Book

The Best International Fiction Book

This award celebrates originality in global fiction, honoring creative and unique works that set new standards in the literary field.
The Best International Non-Fiction Book

The Best International Non-Fiction Book

The Best International Non-Fiction Book Award honors outstanding works that redefine the genre, recognizing unique and original contributions to global non-fiction literature.

Participation Conditions

    • The participants must submit books that are original and tackle new themes.

    • The submitted books must have been first published no more than two years before the relevant edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair.

    • The submitted books should not be reprints of older editions.

    • The participants should not have won The Sharjah Award for the Best International Fiction Book in the past two years.

    • The Administration will not return the submitted copies to the participants.

    • The Administration reserves the right to use the cover and/or excerpts of the winning books for marketing purposes without prior consultation with the publisher or the writer.

    • The participants have no rights whatsoever to contest any of the decisions of the jury.

    • The winners will be invited to the awards ceremony during the Sharjah International Book Fair.

    • The winners will be announced at the start of the relevant edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair.

    • The prize will be equally shared between the author and the publishing house, unless the publishing contract and the intellectual property rights state otherwise.

    • The writer will receive due recognition for his/her work.

    1. • The submitted books must be originally written and published in English and must not be translations.

Arbitration and Criteria

  1. Candidates have no entitlement to contest any decisions made by the jury.
  2. Nominations close at the end of September each year.
  3. Winners will be announced at the start of the current SIBF.
  4. Winning writers will be invited to attend the awards ceremony before the current SIBF.
  5. The prize value will be equitably divided between the author and the publishing house unless the publishing contract and intellectual property rights state otherwise.
  6. Recognition and appreciation will be exclusively directed towards the author.

Evaluation Criteria

The electronic participation form must be completed, printed, and sent by mail to the Sharjah Book Authority address, along with three copies of the submitted book. Please note that receiving the published book copies before the submission deadline is a mandatory requirement for participation acceptance.
